What Is Respite Care?

Respite Care encompasses all of our care services and is designed to give a carer a break from their existing workload, to look after their own health and well-being for a change. Respite carers will support the end user to the exact same standard of care that they are accustomed to, and are available on a short or long term basis.

At the moment there are 6.5 million people in the UK who are classed as carers – providing care for the ill, disabled, or loved ones – and this number continues to rise. Carers UK estimates that there will be 9 million carers in the UK by 2037.

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION

The vast majority of care in the UK is provided by family and friends, who make up most of the UK’s 6.5 million carers. The UK’s social services and the NHS rely on carers’ willingness and ability to provide care and without it they would simply collapse. Did you know, the care provided (unpaid) by the nations’ carers is worth an estimated £119 billion per year – considerably more than total spending on the NHS.

Respite carers are trained and qualified to deal with any situation and would be more than willing to undertake personal and domestic care as well accompanying the client to various activities, such as swimming, coffee mornings or bingo evenings. As well as giving the original carer a well-earned break, it gives the client an opportunity to socially interact with another friendly face.

Everyone requires a break from time to time and with Respite Care, family carers can get that well-deserved break.
